During a visit to Alaska in 1998, the Wedgeworths fell in love with this area.  Even though they had traveled extensively, nothing compared to Alaska with its vast expanses, beautiful mountains, waterfalls, lakes, rivers, and glaciers.  They also found the people to be extradordinay, coming from varied backgrounds in search of a new life.  Their stories are  so interesting. Their pioneer spirit is inspiring.

The Wedgeworths returned to their lives in Arkansas but couldn't stop thinking about living their retirement years in Alaska.  Kathryn worked for a large health care products manufacturing company for 32 years before retiring.  Terry had his own steel building construction company, crane service, and farm.  Arkansas was home and they loved it except for the hot humid summers.  Terry wanted to continue working outside but couldn't imagine doing it for many more years in those hot humid summers. So, in 2002, Terry and one of his nephews took several weeks to make a road trip throughout Alaska in search of the perfect place.  They traveled down many miles of dirt/gravel roads looking for the right place with a mountain view and water. When they were almost ready to give up and return to Arkansas someone told them to talk to a real estate agent in the Copper River Basin.  That's when Terry found this beautiful place on Willow Mountain. In 2004 they began making annual journeys bringing lots of building materials and friends to build Willow Mountain Lodge.

Our hope is that you enjoy being here as much as we do. Who knows, you may be the next person to fall in love with Alaska and ask how you can make it your home.
